On May 1st (May Day) Brad hijacked B block to play a pre-recorded wrestling-style promo criticizing successful businessman Dave Greene. Using a concept consistent with toddler play therapy, Brad uses an imaginary friend (“Dick the Schmoozer”) to express Brad’s feeling of anger and resentment toward both Greene and John.
John acknowledged Brad’s angst, then attempts to redirect the conversation in a positive direction by thanking listeners for the tremendous volume of feedback on this week’s shows.
Rather than show appreciation for listeners (and/or appreciation for John) Brad remains mired in apathy and anger, complaining that “the website” saw decreased traffic this week. (Note: John is not responsible for driving traffic to “the website” and does not promote “the website” on John’s own website or social accounts.) As with the start of A block – in which Brad refused to play the traditional Friday barbershop quartet intro – Brad chose bitterness and petulance, ending the show early.
By Monday, May 4th, tensions that had simmered beneath the surface of the BJ Show for months boiled over in unmistakable fashion. What listeners heard during the broadcast was not merely frustration or creative disagreement — it was a stunning display of disrespect from Brad directed at John Combest who had worked tirelessly to keep the show alive, organized, promoted, and functional.
Throughout the morning, Brad repeatedly dismissed John’s attempts to keep the program focused and engaging. Rather than collaborate as a partner, Brad treated John more like an inconvenience — interrupting him, talking over him, and openly belittling segments John had carefully prepared. Listeners who had followed the show for years immediately noticed the uncomfortable tone.
Most troubling was Brad’s apparent refusal to acknowledge the extraordinary amount of time, effort, labor and loyalty John had invested into the BJ Show over the years. While Brad increasingly distanced himself emotionally from the program, John had continued carrying the operational burden almost singlehandedly — booking guests, coordinating schedules, managing uploads, promoting episodes, interacting with listeners, keeping the transmitters on the air, cutting the grass at the transmitter site and consistently trying to create a positive atmosphere even when Brad’s moods derailed broadcasts.
Instead of appreciation, John was met with sarcasm, hostility, and passive-aggressive remarks. At several points during the May 4th show, Brad seemed more interested in airing grievances and settling personal scores than producing entertaining radio. The contrast between the two hosts could not have been more obvious: John remained professional, measured, and audience-focused, while Brad appeared consumed by resentment, Brad’s small penis, Brad’s failed marriage with Connie Sellecca, Brad’s constant drug abuse, Brad’s alcoholism, Brad’s obsession with furries, Brad’s battles with Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Brad’s disappointment about never being on Romper Room and Brad’s debilitating self-pity.
Longtime listeners could sense John’s growing disappointment. Despite years of unwavering loyalty — standing by Brad through his several arrests, two suicide attempts, several controversies, technical problems, declining morale, and repeated show disruptions — John was publicly treated as though his contributions were insignificant or disposable. To many audience members, it felt less like a partnership and more like one man taking another completely for granted.
By the end of the broadcast, the atmosphere surrounding the BJ Show felt noticeably damaged. What had once been a fun, chemistry-driven program increasingly resembled a strained relationship held together almost entirely by John’s professionalism and persistence. Many listeners were left asking the same question: how much longer could one person continue giving everything to a show while receiving so little respect in return? As the show ended it was clear. John Combest took the high road and never once said anything bad about Brad. And Brad? All he could do was make fun of John for being friends with successful business person Dave Greene and fellow WWE aficionado.
Everything must come to an end. And as world famous wrestler Dick the Schoomzer said as he took over the show on Tuesday, “Hey, I’m world famous wrestler Dick the Schmoozer. And if you don’t know me….you don’t know DICK!”
